About the Role

At RSPCA Queensland, volunteers are the lifeblood of everything we do. If you love connecting with people and want to play a pivotal role in supporting our furry, feathered, and scaly friends, this is the role for you!

As our Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll be the driving force behind attracting, onboarding, and retaining passionate volunteers across the state. You’ll champion a vibrant volunteer culture that’s all about fun, teamwork, and making a real impact in animal welfare. Working closely with managers and volunteers, you’ll ensure everyone feels valued, supported, and equipped to contribute their best.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Identify volunteer recruitment needs, develop targeted advertising and outreach strategies, screen applicants, and ensure a smooth onboarding experience that sets volunteers up for success.
  • Coordinate and deliver engaging Volunteer Orientation sessions that inspire and educate new volunteers, answering questions and providing essential information with confidence and warmth.
  • Act as the go-to person for volunteer enquiries, offering timely assistance and fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment that promotes retention and satisfaction.
  • Maintain and regularly update the volunteer database with accuracy, provide training and support to managers on database usage, and ensure all administrative duties related to volunteers are completed efficiently.
  • Build and nurture a positive volunteer culture based on fun, respect, and teamwork. Ensure regular two-way communication with volunteers and managers to maintain inclusion, share updates, and gather feedback.
  • Step in to provide support and guidance during sensitive or challenging situations, working collaboratively to find effective solutions that respect everyone involved.
  • Monitor volunteer feedback and participation data, identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate with teams to implement retention initiatives and enhance volunteer experiences.
  • Work alongside RSPCA staff across departments to ensure volunteers are integrated effectively and their contributions are recognized and maximized.

About you

  • A genuine passion for animal welfare and a strong alignment with RSPCA Qld’s mission, values, and principles.
  • Experience in recruitment, people management, or volunteer coordination — ideally across diverse age groups and backgrounds.
  • Outstanding communication skills — you’re a natural relationship builder who listens actively and communicates clearly and empathetically.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A friendly, approachable personality with a flair for customer service and the ability to inspire and motivate volunteers and colleagues alike.
  • Comfort with administrative tasks and proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, or related fields are a bonus but not essential.
  • Personal drive, initiative, and a proven ability to deliver results while fostering a collaborative team spirit.
